This miniseries continues Wood Mackenzie's coverage of US utility investment in grid modernization. The first volume provides an overview of the investment landscape, analyzing six top-level categories: advanced field devices, AMI, communication infrastructure, enterprise software, DER management, and data management and analytics. Filings from 55 utilities across 32 states from 2022-2025 are analyzed, with investment broken out by state, utility, technology and per-customer spend. This overview sets the stage for two following volumes, offering deep dives on each the six investment categories.
