Downstream oil in brief: what challenges do electric trucks face?
Report summary
Cutting emissions from the heavy-duty segment needs to play an essential part in the European Union’s efforts to decarbonise road transport. Therefore, electrification of the truck fleet is about to start. Although the HDV segment is difficult to electrify due to the required weight and size of the batteries, EVs will make up 10% of European new low-mileage truck sales in 2027. As public charging infrastructure specifically designed for heavy trucks is almost non-existent today, we look at the principal challenges ahead of wide-scale introductions of trucking EV sites.
