Onnagawa tight oil unconventional concept play
Report summary
The Onnagawa is a middle Miocene-aged, bio-siliceous formation found throughout Japan. The Onnagawa is part of the petroleum system associated with numerous oil and gas fields in the Akita and Niigata districts. It is considered to be the main source rock for the Ayukawa field in northern Honshu in the Akita prefecture along the Sea of Japan coastline. JAPEX started to produce tight oil from Onnagawa formation at Ayukawa oil field in 2014.
