Asset Report
Powder River Cretaceous tight oil unconventional play
Report summary
The Powder River Cretaceous play is made up of eight primary drilling zones. The Upper Cretaceous sandstones represent four formations above the Niobrara including the Teapot, Parkman, Sussex and Shannon. The second drilling zone, the Lower Cretaceous sandstones, comprise four formations below the Niobrara including the Turner, Frontier, Mowry and Muddy. The third target is the Niobrara and the Mowry shales. Though each Cretaceous sandstone zone consists of multiple formations, the zones should not be thought of as a traditional stacked resource opportunity. For example, while the Sussex and Shannon formations are linear subsurface features that trend northwest to southeast, the overlying Parkman is a delta front that creates a crescent moon shaped play fairway in the centre of the basin.
