Asset Report
Sydney Basin CBM unconventional play
Report summary
This report has been moved to inactive as of February. AGL Energy is the only operating company within this basin and they have commenced their Rehabilitation Project along with plans to sign-off the Camden field by 2027. These reports will no longer be updated. For more information contact the analyst. With domestic gas supply shortfalls predicted in eastern Australia and strong gas prices driven by LNG netbacks, the play offers opportunities for incremental supply into the domestic market. The basin covers over 36,000 km2 onshore and contains rich coal deposits with associated natural gas and minor oil shows. Around 150 wells have been drilled in this basin, but the Camden Project by AGL is the only operating CBM project. The New South Wales government has restricted drilling within two kilometres of residential areas and some land used for the equine and viticulture industries. Maintaining good relations with the owners of farming or residential land is key to executing projects.
