Asset Report
Tarim Basin shale gas unconventional play
Report summary
The shales of the Tarim Basin are thought to be thick and occur over a large area, leading to a large resource potential estimate for the entire basin. However, depth of the target shales could exceed 4,500 metres. Additionally, the basin is remote and dominated by the world’s second largest shifting sand desert, making it difficult to obtain large volumes of water for drilling and fracturing. Developing the shales will prove to be a costly and challenging endeavour.
