Azadegan is the largest oil field discovered in Iran in the last 30 years, and one of the biggest globally, with estimated oil in place of around 33 billion barrels (including the Yaran North and Yaran South fields, which are part of the wider structure). The onshore field is located onshore 120 kilometres west of Ahvaz and is shared with the giant Majnoon field in neighbouring Iraq. It contains heavy oil.
