Barrow Island is a mature oil field located on Barrow Island off the northwest coast of Australia. Oil was first discovered in 1964 and the development was sanctioned in 1966. Oil began production in April 1967. The production facilities are located on Barrow Island and around 900 wells have been drilled. Oil is transported to an offshore buoy before being exported to the mainland or overseas by tanker. The field is now in decline and production will cease in 2025.
