The Blacktip gas field is located in the Bonaparte Basin, around 245 kilometres southwest of Darwin. It was discovered by Shell, Woodside and Eni in September 2001. Eni has held 100% equity in the field since before production started. In December 2005, Eni signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with Darwin PWC to supply gas for up to 25 years commencing in January 2009. This HoA was converted to a gas sales agreement in June 2006. Production started in September 2009.
