Block 6 (Amistad) is the only Ecuadorian shallow-water gas producer. The field is located in the centre of the Gulf of Guayaquil, approximately 70 km from the coast. The block was discovered in 1970 but remained undeveloped until the the early 2000s, when the local gas demand grew. The project consists of four offshore platforms, a 93-mmcfd capacity submarine pipeline and inland processing facilities.
