Captain is a large heavy oil field situated in the Outer Moray Firth, 145 kilometres northeast of Aberdeen. It is one of the most complex and capital-intensive oil projects on the UKCS. Captain was sanctioned in 1995 and first production was in 1997. Different areas of the field have been developed in phases.
