Report summary

Carito-Mulata is a giant, deep onshore reservoir located in eastern Venezuela north of the Monagas basin. The fields are sub-divided into operating areas: north, central and west. To keep reservoir pressure constant and avoid asphaltene precipitation, central and west produce under a natural gas injection project while north undergoes water injection. Carito-Mulata is a key asset for PDVSA, although production has declined significantly for more than a decade.
