The Chachar field was discovered in 1995 as an extension of the north-eastern dome of the Kandhkot field in the Indus Basin. Development was delayed due to extended gas sales negotiations with authorities. Tullow secured a gas sales agreement with the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in 2002 to supply a maximum of 30 mmscfd to the Guddu Thermal Power Station.
