Chattak
Report summary
The Chattak field is located in the north-east corner of Bangladesh. On 16 October 2003, Niko Resources, signed a joint venture agreement with BAPEX for the development and production of the Feni and Chattak fields. The deal provided the necessary capital investment required to renew the fields, which had ceased production in 1998 and 1982, respectively. In January 2005, Chattak-2 experienced a blow-out and the first relief well that was drilled to establish contact with the reservoir also experienced a blow-out. In 2006, the Government of Bangladesh filed a lawsuit against Niko, demanding compensation for losses incurred in Chattak blow-outs.
