The East China Sea contains several oil and gas fields in the Xihu Trough area. The Tianwaitian and Chunxiao fields were brought onstream in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Canxue and Duanqiao were commissioned in 2014. Ningbo 22-1, a large gas field discovered in 2014, is believed to have come onstream in 2020. CNOOC and Sinopec also brought the Ningbo 19-6 gas field onstream in 2022.
