Egypt 2021 licensing rounds: give old blocks another chance
Report summary
On 1 March 2021, Egypt launched two licensing rounds covering 24 blocks in the Mediterranean, Western Desert and Gulf of Suez. Many of them were already on offer during previous rounds but did not find bidders. The EGPC round could appeal to onshore oil specialists, while the EGAS round focuses on deepwater gas and seems designed for the Majors. The NOCs hope to reload the exploration pipeline as a first step to support Egypt’s long-term hydrocarbon production.
