Ekofisk was the first development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and was a central part of the infrastructure for the Norwegian sector. The development of PL018 also included the Cod, Vest Ekofisk, Edda, Eldfisk, Embla, Tor (unitised with PL006) and Albuskjell (unitised with PL011) fields.Due to ageing infrastructure and subsidence, the Ekofisk II project was initiated in the early 1990s, and a final plan for redevelopment and continued operation was approved in 1994.
