ExxonMobil has made its eighth discovery on the Stabroek block with the Longtail-1 well. With only two dry holes since the exploration drilling campaign began with the Liza discovery, the block’s 80% success rate has yielded billions of barrels of recoverable resources. Following successes earlier this year at Ranger and Pacora, we estimate Longtail now pushes the block’s recoverable resource volumes to over 4 billion boe. As ExxonMobil, with partners Hess and Nexen, prepare to drill the Hammerhead prospect next, development drilling is already underway at Liza leading up to the deployment of the first FPSO, which will start producing in 2020. Longtail is located very close to the 2017 Turbot discovery, which will facilitate a combined development of those fields in a later phase.
