Asset Report
Fengcheng
Report summary
The Fengcheng heavy oil field was discovered in late 1981 in the Junggar Basin. Early development focused on light oil from the Permian formation, but as technology improved, heavy oil became a greater priority. Steam flooding and horizontal drilling were initially applied to lift the heavy oil, but with limited effect. Then the Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology was piloted with more positive results. PetroChina has since widely employed SAGD.
