The Fort Hills oil sands project is an open pit mine located about 90 kilometres to the north of Fort McMurray in the Athabasca oil sands region in northeast Alberta. The project does not include an upgrader; rather, it uses paraffinic froth treatment to produce a market ready bitumen and diluent blend.
