Global Upstream Update: our favourite slides and topics – April 2023
Report summary
Focus on gas: evidence of an industry-wide rush to invest in gas remains sparse, but business models are changing. We look at the areas around the world where gas is making headlines. APAC carbon legislation: Australia now requires large emitters to stick to prescribed baselines, around 65 oil and gas projects are affected, we assess the impacts and why it is now critical to have a CCS solution. The long-awaited Indonesian regulations mean costs are now recoverable under PSC terms. This improves economics and supports high-CO2 gas projects. Guyana targets growth and sustainability: the strategy is clear – produce advantaged barrels; add renewable power; sell carbon credits. Namibia gearing up for growth: the country’s potential is still being defined, and the Jonker discovery was another substantial boost.
