Global Upstream Update: the biggest issues in upstream revisited – February 2023
Report summary
The Global Upstream Update is a regular Insight produced for global clients. In this special one-off edition, we look at some of the most impactful issues which affected the industry in 2022, how these have evolved and what to expect next. This includes: Windfall interventions: from new taxes to price caps, the impacts have been felt globally. You’d be a fool to bet against more action to come. Upstream 2.0: 2022 was a noticeable inflection point for Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity. But absolute emissions continue to rise as demand recovers. Energy security: energy importing countries have scrambled for supply, asking domestic industries what’s achievable in the near-term, and asking us for a view on non-Russian OPEC+ supply growth in the medium to longer-term. Inflation and execution risks: as if the continuing spectre of supply chain margin expansion wasn’t enough, the limitations of labour and equipment is impacting execution and deliverability in global hotspots.
