Report summary

The GPC fields consist of up to 21 oil and gas fields located in the Gulf of Suez and the Western Desert. The fields are operated by the General Petroleum Corporation (GPC) on behalf of EGPC. The first field, Hurghada, was discovered as early as 1915. Subsequent discoveries were not made until the 1930s when the Ras Gharib heavy oil field was discovered. Other key fields include Bakr, discovered in 1958, and Al Hamd which was found in 2004. GPC continues to explore its acreage and has made substantail new discoveries as recently as 2012.
