The open acreage licensing programme (OALP) allows companies to declare acreage of interest, which is then opened for competitive bidding to other interested companies along with the originator. Of the 55 blocks on offer, 46 are located onshore, 8 in shallow waters and one in deepwater. Nearly 60,000 square kilometres of area is on offer. Bids are due by 3 April 2018. The names of the originators are confidential, but we believe these were primarily Indian incumbent players. The focus was on proven basins with a target to fill out areas surrounding existing blocks. Block awards will be made as revenue sharing contracts with no cost recovery mechanism.
