Report summary
K5 is a reservoir with a massive 21-tcf gas-initially-in-place discovered in 1970, but it has a high CO2 content of up to 70%. The discovery has been largely ignored, with subsequent appraisals completed decades later. A number of reasons including a lack of focused incentives from the government to develop high CO2 fields pre-2000. In addition, competing, economical gas discoveries with lower acid gas content and lack of mature carbon capture technology have kept the gas in the ground. ...
