Mittelplate is the largest oil field in Germany. The main part of the Mittelplate reservoir has been developed using a production centre, constructed on a man-made island in the tidal waters of the Elbe estuary. An onshore section of the reservoir, known as Dieksand, produces via extended reach wells.
