Nigeria-São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Development Zone (JDZ) is a small area of deepwater acreage in the Gulf of Guinea. In 2002, a Joint Development Zone (JDZ) was agreed for both countries to jointly explore for hydrocarbons. Outside the JDZ, São Tomé and Príncipe operates its own exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The northern part of the JDZ lies in the Niger Delta basin which has significant Tertiary deepwater discoveries on the Nigerian side.
