A total of 24 commercial fields have been discovered onshore Angola, lying in two distinct geological basins: the Lower Congo Basin and the Kwanza Basin. The former contains 14 fields in the Soyo region in the far north of the country. The Kwanza Basin contains 10 fields located south of Luanda, which were abandoned between 1995 and 2002. Production is now entirely from fields in the Lower Congo Basin.
