Report summaryThe Yanchang oil fields consist of a cluster of discoveries in the Ordos Basin to the north of Shaanxi province. One field, Qilichun was China's first discovery back in 1907. In the following decades development activities were constrained by the geological complexity of the play. Activities levels grew through the 1970s and 1980s, driven by technological advances and in the 1990s the provincial government opened the basin to private investors to explore and develop.
