Report summary

The Orion in-situ project is located near Hilda Lake in the Cold Lake area of Alberta and uses Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology. Following a successful pilot project that lasted over eight years, Orion was approved for commercial development in 2005 by BlackRock, its former operator. Shell acquired the project in 2006. The first phase of development at Orion has the capacity to produce 10,000 b/d of bitumen but has averaged under 6,000 b/d due to reservoir quality issues. ...
