The Otway gas project consists of a 205 TJ/d (195 mmcfd) onshore gas processing facility and the Geographe and Thylacine gas fields, located in the offshore Otway Basin. Both fields were discovered by Origin Energy in 2001 and lie between 55 and 70 kilometres from the Victorian coast. The project was initially developed by a joint venture led by Woodside. Thylacine was developed first, using a fixed offshore platform and a subsea pipeline to shore, with production commencing in 2007. Geographe was brought onstream in 2013 via a subsea tie-back to the Thylacine platform. The project is currently operated by Beach Energy. The gas is processed at the Otway gas plant owned by the Beach-Ofer JV. Sales gas is fed into the South East Australia Gas (SEA Gas) pipeline for supply to the south-east Australian market.
