In 2012, after having previously drilled 22 unsuccessful exploratory wells, Pemex discovered commercial volumes of oil in the Trion field located in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). This was accompanied by a second discovery, Supremus. Both discoveries were made in the Perdido area. The area is close to the Great White and Trident fields, which are located in US territory.
