The P`nyang and P`nyang South fields are located approximately 130 kilometres northwest of Hides, in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. P`nyang was discovered by Chevron in 1990 and P`nyang South by ExxonMobil in 2012. In 2018, TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil announced that the Papua LNG project would be developed as part of the PNG Expansion project - an 8 mmpta, three-train expansion at the ExxonMobil-operated PNG LNG site. The P'nyang fields were to be developed as part of the PNG Expansion project, but a lack of agreement on fiscal terms between the PNG Government and the P'nyang JV halted progress. The Papua LNG project was revised as a separate integrated LNG development to be supplied by the Elk and Antelope fields. The P`nyang Area will be developed as backfill for the PNG LNG plant.
