Attention has shifted to the Powder River in the past year. A majority of this focus has been centered around Chesapeake, Devon and EOG. However, the Powder River is home to dozens of private operators that are targeting the prolific sandstone and shale formations. The scale of operations varies significantly among players. Some private operators have brought online hundreds of wells in the past several years, while others have amassed a stockpile of permits. Small as they may be, Powder River private operators play a critical role in delineation and future repeatability of the stacked plays in the Powder River.
