The Qaiyarah and Najmah fields are located in Iraq's Nineveh province, approximately 20 kilometres south of the city of Mosul and 70 kilometres west of the Kirkuk field. Qaiyarah has been producing heavy oil since the 1930s, whereas Najmah remains undeveloped. The fields were tendered under two separate contracts in Iraq's second petroleum licence round in December 2009.
