Rosneft has purchased the State’s 50.0755% stake in Bashneft for US$5.3 billion. This concludes a complicated history of privatisation and re-nationalisation for Bashneft. The acquisition will give Rosneft access to strategic upstream projects, new brownfield technologies and superior refining facilities. The deal, combined with a possible sale of 19.5% share in Rosneft, is key for tackling the 2016 budget deficit in Russia.
