Shell to abandon US Arctic exploration efforts
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Shell announced 28 September 2015 that it will not pursue further exploration at the Burger field in the US Chukchi Sea. The company indicated that the Burger J well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 2,070 metres (6,800 feet) and encountered oil and gas, but the results were not sufficient to justify further exploration. This announcement ends a nine-year exploration programme that Shell pursued with a 100% working interest. As a result of Shell's move, we do not expect any high-impact exploration in the US Arctic for the foreseeable future.
