Suizhong 36-1 is a large heavy oil field in the Liaodong Bay area of the Bohai Gulf, around 46 kilometres off the coast. The crude has a gravity of 14 to 19° API. The field has been developed in two phases. Phase I commenced production in 1993 and phase II in 2000. Since 2009, CNOOC has been implementing water injection to deal with the rising water-cut. Chemical flooding has also been applied in the area around the central processing platform K since the early 2010s.
