The Terra Nova field is located in the Grand Banks area, approximately 350 kilometres to the southeast of St John's Newfoundland and 30 kilometres to the south of the Hibernia platform. Terra Nova was discovered in 1984 and achieved first production in January 2002.The field has been developed with a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), which has a production capacity of approximately 180,000 b/d.
