The UK has 3 billion barrels in technically recoverable, but stranded resource. At current exploration rates, it would take 14 years and 500 wells to discover this same volume. As an ultra-mature region, this level of discovered resource can no longer be ignored. In this insight we look at the potential economic benefits of the UK's small pools, and how their development could provide a welcome boost to the UK oil and gas sector. We identify key stakeholders that stand to gain as well as infrastructure hubs that could benefit from the additional production. We also analyse the potential economic impact of some new technologies.
