The road to Dorado – Australia's oil find of the century
Report summary
No one predicted it. Dorado-1 was one of the top gas wildcat wells to watch in Asia Pacific in 2018. So when the well discovered light oil in a net 130 metres of high-quality pay, operator Quadrant Energy and partner Carnarvon Petroleum would have been more than a little pleasantly surprised. The Dorado-1 discovery is the talk of the town in Perth. It's been over 20 years since the last 100-million-barrel discovery in Western Australia. That was the 119-mmbbl Hermes find by Woodside Petroleum back in 1996. Dorado is now the third largest find in Western Australia's history – based on Carnarvon Petroleum's reported 2C recoverable oil estimate (171 million barrels).
