Southeast Asia's national oil companies are on the rise. PTTEP and PETRONAS combined have accounted for almost 30% of disclosed global asset deal spend in 2019. Their long-term goals mean they are returning to international business development. But they are also increasingly dominant in their own backyard, aggressively outbidding incumbents for major assets. PETRONAS, PERTAMINA and PTTEP stand out in particular.
