The Majors have emerged from the downturn stronger. Portfolios are more resilient to lower prices and churning out cash flow at current prices. But investment rates have collapsed and only ExxonMobil is increasing spend. More work is needed to beef up long-term growth. The Majors face tough choices in balancing near-term shareholder returns and reinvesting for long-term sustainability.
