The giant Yamburgskoye field lies in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northern West Siberia. Yamburgskoye is one of Gazprom's 'Big Three' gas fields, along with Medvezhye and Urengoiskoye. Together, the fields have accounted for the bulk of Russian gas production over the past few decades. The field was brought onstream in early-1980s and reached peak production in 1998.
