The Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) transports oil from the North Slope of Alaska to the ice-free port of Valdez. From Valdez, oil is primarily tankered to ports in the US Lower 48. The pipeline is almost 1,300 kilometres in length, traverses three mountain ranges and 800 rivers and streams.
