Horizons Live: Gridlock

The demand dilemma facing the US power industry

The US is on the brink of electricity demand growth not seen in decades. And it is not ready.

For 70 years, demand growth has consistently and increasingly decoupled from economic growth. But that trend is about to reverse, driven by burgeoning data centre development, a resurgence in energy-intensive manufacturing and wider electrification. Technology C-suites - used to moving at light-speed - are realising that energy may be the largest constraint on their growth and are shocked by the pace at which utilities can move.

Tackling this challenge will require a collaborative effort, but the prize for utilities and developers who act quickly could be substantial.

Our panel will explore the demand dilemma ahead on this month's Horizons Live.

Our panel:

  • Ed Crooks, Senior Vice President, Thought Leadership Executive, Americas
  • Chris Seiple, Vice Chairman, Energy Transition and Power & Renewables
  • Ben Hertz-Shargel, Global Head of Grid Edge
  • Dulles Wang, Director, Americas Gas and LNG Research
  • Brian Janous, Co-Founder & Chief Commercial Officer at Cloverleaf Infrastructure
