BP unveiled its new strategy for carbon yesterday. It was a big moment for the company, and for the broader oil and gas industry. Others have made bold commitments on carbon. But no company of BP’s scale has gone as far, or has committed so unequivocally, to fundamentally transforming itself in the face of energy transition. Two decades from now, BP will be unrecognisable from the company it has been for the past 110 years. If anyone was still in any doubt about which way the wind is blowing for oil and gas, this should settle it.
