A key driver of benzene supply: polyester demand
Report summary
It is a little understood fact, that on a global basis only 5% of benzene is produced by “on-purpose” processes. There is no other commodity like it and the 45 million tons of annual demand for this critical feedstock for some very important chemical value chains (e.g. styrenics, nylon, polyurethane) is entirely at the mercy of other industries. One industry above all others has emerged as the most vital contributor to future growth benzene supply: paraxylene.
