This insight looks at plastics demand into different vehicle types and the impact of drivers like electrification, lightweighting and recycling in the transport industry. A scenario modelled to study the accelerated impact of these drivers on polymer demand into vehicles predicted that while electrification and lightweight is expected to increase total polymer demand, recycled content policies could result in a reduction of virgin polymer demand compared to Wood Mackenzie’s base scenario.
