Burton coal mine

Report summary

Burton is a small scale, export hard coking coal mine, located in the central Bowen Basin directly east of the Goonyella Riverside mine. The mine was suspended towards the end of 2016 by its previous owner Peabody. Burton used to operate within the ML 70109 mining lease. The mine was purchased by the Lenton Joint Venture (owned by New Hope and Formosa Plastics) in 2017, for the main purpose of using the mine's infrastructure to develop its own New Lenton project.
